Dash lights on after brake light change on Sprinter T1N

You just got a fancy set of LED bulbs and wanted to “upgrade” your taillights to be brighter. Cool! But then go to drive the van and find you have three new warning lights on right there on the right side of the instrument cluster. The ABS, ESP traction control and wheel sensor warning lights are on! Well that’s annoying!

Here’s what happened.

Improper voltage draw at your tail lights will cause these 3 lights. Sometimes it is as simple as the wrong bulbs. Not all bulbs that fit are the same. A brighter bulb, drawing more power installed or something else drawing current on the circuit will trigger faults. This can also happen if you install a backup camera and tie into the brake lights as well. If you tied your backup camera power source into the wires going to your tail lights, you will need to remove that camera to solve this problem. No other way around it.

A relay can be placed in the circuit, but a camera powered by the tail light circuit is going to continue to trigger these three lights on the dash.

If you do install a backup camera, you’ll find it is more useful on an independent dash switch where you can turn it on if I want, even without putting van in R (reverse) or inserting a key. This way is doesn't come on when you would ignore it anyhow.

Many of r he auto triggered cameras we’ve seen are kinda' slow and by the time you have an image, you will have likely finished backing up.
