Adventuremobile: 1920's Chevy Poptop South Africa to Stockholm

We found a very cool adventuremobile at our annual pilgrimage to the Hillsborough Concours d'Elegance in (Hillsborough) Burlingame, CA.

There’s a book written about the adventures of this truck and the expedition it was on to forge the road north, through Africa, starting in Capetown and ending in Stockholm, crossing the entire length of the African content as well as the length of the European continent.

A pic from the expedition: “The Acholi Tribe lends a hand in the negotiation of the Okoto River” (we think it’s the Te'okoto River, Uganda. Nearby the Victoria Nile River. Acholi people are found in Northern Uganda.

The truck was an official Chevrolet Expedition (5 men in one car and one truck) organized by General Motors South African Ltd, Port Elizabeth to show the reliability of the GM engines and vehicles themselves. The expedition left Cape Town in March and arrived in Stockholm December 1928, while Central and East Africa were in full flood, taking in South Africa Tanganyika, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, the Balkans, Switzerland, France, England and Sweden.
