Adventuremobile Spotted

This was a fleeting moment for us. We just pulled in to have dinner somewhere in Grass Valley, CA and saw this crazy rig rolling down Hwy 49 toward Nevada City.

We did some investigation and found this to be a 1993 Mercedes Benz 917AF called The Heffalump from Canada. And found their site The Wandering Heffalump What the hell is a Heffalump? Believe it or not it’s from a Winnie the Pooh Story, The Heffalump & Woozles, a story in which the Heffalump is an elephant and the RV kinda looks like an elephant… so thus the name. The truck is a 917AF and not a Unimog. The truck has full time 4X4 with a pneumatic front, central and rear locking diffs. Nicer than a Mog on road not as capable offroad.

The truck went through a renovation back in 2013. Here’s some documentation around it.

As we dug deeper we found it seems to have been sold to a new set of owners early this year in February (2023) and found it’s way to Northern California.
