Oxidized paint on you van
So we recently procured a new Sprinter Sportsmobile to our our fleet. While it was a one owner car and well maintained, it wasn’t ever garaged. It spent it’s entire life outside and lived in the Northern California town of Mill Valley. This didn’t do the paint any favors. The previous owners keep the interior clean and tidy and did wash the van. But we are willing to bet it was never waxed or detailed.
Before
The paint was so dull on this Pebble Grey Sprinter Van. This is what 8 years of paint neglect looks like. Luckily the clear coat on the Mercedes Benz isn’t cheap and
After
OK, this is very light duty polishing by hand. This was a simple test panel by simply hand polishing with a clear rag for about 3 minutes. You can immediately see the reflection and clarity of the paint come out.
Getting here was a process. Here’s what we recommend when going about restoring paint that simply needs to be ‘buffed out’.
The detailed process we used to get here:
We used the 3M 06062 Perfect-It 3000 Rubbing Compound to get any deep scratches out.
Then followed by the 3M 06064 Perfect-It 3000 Swirl mark remover.
Each applied by foam pad on an oscillator and then buffed with a terry cloth on the same oscillator.
A couple spots we went back through and used the Griotts Garage Machine polish 3
And finally sealed it up with the Griotts Garage Best of Show wax.
And recently after washing we’ve tried this Mother’s CMX Ceramic coating to protect the paint before winter arrives.
