Get out of the way.. B!

The horn on the Sprinter van is laughable. If you close your eyes and listen you might think it’s coming from a tiny little compact vehicle. Needless to say it does not promote confidence. Especially when it comes to safety.

We went looking for a way to update our horn and found a few options.

Hella Supertone

These are the famous loud and powerful Dual Supertone Horns which look look the part. You see these typically peaking behind a Subaru grill. They come with this red grill and stand out and sound pretty decent. It was the initial go to.

  • High tone: 500 Hz - Low tone: 300 Hz - Sound level: 118 dB(A) - Voltage: 12Volts. ECE-R28 approved. so they’re up there in loudness.

These were an easy buy and on sale on Amazon.

Ubiquitous on Subarus where they peak through the grill like some sort of techno intake or turbo. Kinda cool to think a horn has become a fashion accessory.

Hella Airhorn

Another one from Hella but this time it’s an airhorn.

Designed to deliver trouble-free, consistent performance

  • Hella's ultra-reliable Single Air horn looks and sounds like nothing else on the road with 115db(A) of sound. Not as loud as the supertone but still up there.

  • Black Trumpet Style Air Horn for vehicles with a compressed air brake system is kinda cool. Like a hybrid.

  • Measures: 4.5" x 5.6" x 7.9" So a tad larger then two smaller and more compact horns. So not sure they would mount in front of the radiator.

Found it on Amazon

PIAA Bass Horn

  • 112 decibels at 2.7 amps each. Not as loud as the Hella horns. But almost. Not bad.

  • 330Hz and 400Hz are the difference. The tone is a low with two tones instead of three. I really wanted a horn less high pitched. The OEM horn is so <meep meep>.

I found the best price on Amazon

Here' the run down of the horns that we were thinking about: There’s a couple that are really loud. (150db!)
