Tire Review: Hankook Dynapro AT/M

We review the Hankook Dynapro AT M - Light Truck All-Season Tires for All-terrain driving in a 2WD Mercedes Sprinter

A decent on/off-road tire for 4x4 vehicles, the Dynapro AT M employs a tough pattern design and block structure to overcome any road.

The tread pattern

The Hankook website says the sidewall has “Rugged puncture resistance”.

“Wraparound tread gives tire a rugged look and guards against cuts, bruises and impact breaks.” While we only tested these in your typical PNW logging roads with gravel and mild mud, we didn’t put them to the test in any Moab-like environments.

They seemed to be pretty decent on dry roads. Mild road noise but nothing too crazy. Probably one of the more quiet tires in the AT category. The sipping on the tires was an initial draw. They’re P rated so really made for SUVs and Trucks, but if you have a heavy load I think the sidewall deflects too much. They’re only so/so on wet roads. They seemed to be composed but did give us a bit of an eye opening experience when we drove in wet conditions and had to brake heavy a few times in traffic. Mud was a challenge as driving in the PNW they felt a bit slippery. Driving in snow/sleet/ice/wet grass they tended to be predictable but would slide around at times when torque would push the wheels to spin. I would not consider these a true winter tire even if they do have the M+S rating. Much better then a standard all-season, but for aggressive driving you might consider another tire.

Range:

You can expect to get about 60,000-75,000 miles out of them so they’re pretty long lasting. If you want a good balance of mild off-road capabilities with long range driving and cost then this tire might be for you.

Other tests:

All P-metric Dynapro tires having Uniform Tire Quality Grading scores of 560 for treadwear. Letter grades of “A” and “B”, respectively, were assigned for traction and temperature resistance. Consumer Reports gave it a score of 58 out of 66.

Price:

At $171 (from TireRack) they’re a great value. Coming in about $30-$50 below other competitor tires.

*update: it seems this size of tire is no longer available. P265/75R16 is the available size. Going to a larger size tire is doable but require either a lift like the one from VanCompass, or just some fender trimming. We ran P265/75R16 on another tire with no problems.

Stock size with mild “adventure” look.

The 245/75R16 keeps the 2WD stance completely stock while adding a bit on an pattern on the sidewall if you only want to dip your toe into the aggressive sidewall pattern trend.
