Snorkel for a Sprinter Van?
So, you want to put a snorkel on your Sprinter Van. But why? Do you really need one?
First off… they look cool. But what’s the point really? One of the first questions people ask is: “Can I drive underwater?” Let’s clear things up. Snorkels can be made to keep water from getting into your intake but that’s not what they’re for.
Sprinter Vans are designed to have the air intake positioned at the front grill to suck in air in normal driving conditions. In normal conditions you have clean air. Most intakes are positioned to the side like the Sprinter one pictured below. This ensures it’s not funneling water from rain any more than needed.
The main purpose is off-road a snorkel can improve engine efficiency by drawing in cooler, cleaner and uncontaminated air due to its elevated position.
A snorkel helps reduce the amount of dust, water and other microparticles from entering the engine when driving on long periods off-road.
Whether you’re on the road or off-road, a snorkel is the best way to get the cleanest and purest air into your engine. Even if you’re not crossing rivers or battling high tides, a snorkel can still help improve on performance and fuel efficiency in heavy rain or dusty terrain.
