SWB T1N Sprinter Van
One of the most unique Sprinter Vans out there. A short wheel base (SWB) tall roof T1N Sprinter Van. This is the 118” wheelbase version we didn’t seem much of here in the US. This size continues to be build out in the rest of the world. But stateside, you just don’t see that many here.
We picked up a stock 2006 Dodge 2500 118 passenger van and begin looking how we can modify it for some adventure use.
The earlier T1N vans from 2003-2004 were called W901. Our 2006 T1N is known as a W903 (2004 - 2006).
The 118 is a unique version of the Sprinter Van. The biggest (shortest) thing is that it’s got the shortest wheelbase ever made available from Mercedes Benz. In the US, they were only offered as Dodge Sprinter as it was during that Diamler-Chrysler era.
The 118 refers to the wheelbase of 118in/2997mm. The typical T1N vans are 140in/3556mm Just slightly shorter then the 144” of the newer NVC3/VS30 vans. It puts the overall length of the van at 192.5in. In comparison, it’s the same length as a Toyota 4Runner!
The passenger versions came with two rows of bench seats allowing for carrying 8 passengers with plenty of room for cargo.
Another difference the 118 has apart from the other T1N Sprinter Vans are that it has different sized wheels and suspension.
T1N Shorty and shorty Sprinter Dimensions
Wheel base: 118”
Ext Length 197”
Tall Roof
Height: 102” (2” shorter then longer vans out there)
Cargo Area: 286 cu.ft.
Payload 3,626 lbs (the best out of all the ones out there.
Towing: 5,000 lbs
The 118" wheelbase T1N was available in both cargo and passenger wagon flavors, with both "normal" and "high" roofs.
As with the current models, the cargo versions were built, dismantled, shipped "in pieces", and reassembled in Gaffney, South Carolina.
The passenger wagons came in "whole" in Jacksonville Florida.
The 118" has a body length of 16 feet, and a turning radius of 16 feet and couple of inches.
The turning radius is WAAAAAY better then the newer NCV sprinters.
MB still makes a "short" model (128"), they're simply not shipped (or available) to the US/Canada NAFTA market.
