Sprinter T1N 4x4 conversion
All these 4x4 Sprinters in Europe, and none here in North America. What would be needed in parts to convert one to 4WD, if it is reasonably ($$) possible?
Option 1:
Send a T1N to Germany to have the conversion done by the manufacturer of 4x4 system the original T1N Sprinter with the Iglhaut Allrad 4WD conversion. They don’t allow any DIY jobs on the Vans as well as does not manufacture more Parts for T1N except on MB dealers request when original Parts were broken. So this is likely not a viable option. We contacted them about doing a NVC3 conversion and declined due to age. Other option though I’m not sure if possible, but Oberaigner did conversions for other Sprinters, but unsure if they created one for the T1N..
Option 2:
Find a OEM T1N 4x4 for parts and swap it over. There are occasionally some rusted out 4x4 between 5000€-8000€ for sale on eBay
Option 3:
Manuel gearbox is not a must. There are or have been at least two full conversion kits on german EBay Kleinanzeigen (like Craigslist). They were offered with everything needed for 5500€ and the other one 6500€ As we recall.
Option 4:
@midwestdrifter on sprinter-source.com did a couple as parts “kits” using mostly stock/junkyard Jeep and GM parts. He designed a new front sub-frame and suspension (which he offered to flat-pack fir home assembly) used the Wrangler NAG1 transmission and transfer cases, GM rear axle and front hubs, and had the intermediate drive shafts made.
The input shaft needed to be trimmed to fit the case, but nothing major.
Not for the faint of heart, certainly.
Option 5:
