Tire Review: Michelin Agiles LTX
The Michelin Agiles LTX is an option when ordering your Sprinter Van from the dealer. Or you might be lucky and have a van already “upgraded”. It is considered an M+S / All Season tire.
These are the OEM size: LT245/75R16 and even have the MO-V Mercedes OEM spec
Obviously they’re Load Range: E (10 ply)
Serv. Desc: 120/116Q Load Index 120= 3,086 lbs (1,400 kg) per tire / Speed Rating "Q"= 100 mph (160 kph)
With his spec it’s safe to say that we ran these tires at full pressure 55psi front and 70 psi rear.
Michelin’s are great tires. We have gotten 50,000+ miles out of a set with zero issues. They are perfectly balanced, wear perfectly and perform excellent (when new).
As they’re a bit on the hard side, they do run a little noisy. The corner handling is predictable. The tire deforms very little and grips well for the weight of the van.
As for the M+S designation on these, The sipping is quite nice and they did perform well in the rain (when new) and on the occasional gravel road. As they began to go over the 30,000 mark you could feel the handling in the wet wasn’t what it was as new. They didn’t feel sketchy, but just didn’t feel as amazing. I not sure I would consider these true Mud or Snow tires but they did surprise us in a good way.
Bottom line, if you were to do a lot of highway miles with limited off-roading, these tires would be it.
Note: The difference between the Agilis LTX and the Defender LTX is really around the load rating. The Agilis has a max load of 3042lbs. the Defender 2403lbs. Agilis max inflation of 80psi the Defender 44psi. Agilis tire weight 40lbs. and the defender tire weight of 34lbs. Or E load vs D load ratings.
