Adventuremobile: 2011 Sprinter Whitefeather 4x4
Found this 2011 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 in the typical 144 wheel base. Looks like it started as your standard 2WD Sprinter passenger van.
The passenger van has three rows of bench seat standard, windows all the way around the van and a typically with the factor roof mounted AC. This van looks to have removed wither the last row or two rows of benches and added a platform for a bed. It looks like it’s a custom aluminum frame made in 3 sections. This looks like it’s been designed to allow the bed to be larger or smaller depending on if you wanted to add the row of benches back or not.
with 2 installed(still big enough for 2 people) you can have 5 seats
Now the really interesting part about this van are the aftermarket modifications, you have the Aluminess front bumper and the included winch. But the big wow factor here is the fact that there were no 4x4 Sprinter Vans in the US. So back in 2011 if one wanted 4 wheel drive in a Sprinter van you had to go custom. One way was to ship your van to Germany, have Iglhaut do a conversion and then ship it back from German to the US. Another option was to reach out to a small company in Northern California and do a 4x4 Conversion done by what’s called WhiteFeather 4x4. This utilized Ford and Dana parts. Essentially adding a transfer case, new front and rear axles as well as new suspension to match up with the new Ford parts. All the Whitefeather conversions basically put F350 running gear under the sprinter with a 2 speed transfer case. Lockers front and rear optional.
Now it seems these conversions are a bit more rare as WhiteFeather looks to no longer be doing these conversion as the owner is a retired vet and looks to now be fully retired. We hope someone picks up the torch and carries on the services to possibly convert older vans.
