Installing 180° hinges on VS30 Sprinter

The new VS30 Sprinters have a slightly different hinge design from the NVC3 Sprinters. They no longer use the magnets along the side of the body to both use a bump stop as well as a securing mechanism that holds the door from swinging closed. They have a lever arm built in with a rubber bushing to hold the door open and from hitting the body of the van along each side. Many new VS30 Sprinters come with 270° hinges that allow the door to swing around past 180° and nearly along the side of the van. The trouble with these hinges is that if you want to mount anything onto the back of the door such as a spare tire or luggage rack you’ll need the 180° hinges. This will not only prevent the mounted items from hitting your body work but the design has two access holes you can use to mount accessories to that don’t exist on the 270° hinges.

When ordering the hinges from Mercedes, you’ll find that they come bare and unpainted.

If you want to do this on a NVC3 it’s not very common to find these hinges in the US. But they have them in Europe.

Prep

If you get the hinges from Ebay, you might find they’re already painted as they’re used and pulled off a wrecked Sprinter. If you get them from the dealer or an OEM retail parts source they’ll come unpainted. We recommend you paint them to protect them from all the road grime and primarily salt that you get from the coastal air or the winter roads in the US. Utah winters can make EVERY rust.
