Sprinter Hack: 1up bike rack for surfboards

Surfing and Sprinters are like peanut butter and jelly. Like pizza and beer. Like…well, you get it. There are a few manufacturers that have gone out and created ways to mount a surfboard to your Sprinter van.

We posted a collections of ways to mount a surfboard to your Sprinter van here, if you want to check out all those options. But for simplicity where you don’t want to keep going up and down off the roof for your board, you’ll find these side racks that cradle a surfboard on the side of the van.

The OG rack came from Aluminess. Their Surf Pole allows you to use the ladder and an additional pole to create a sling for your surfboard.


One clever way to create a rack like this on say a Revel where you either have side steps (nerf bars) or just create mounts. You can use a bicycle specific 1up bike rack to hold a board pretty well.

This is a very simple and out of the way solution. 1up bike racks are very rigid and sturdy. This way of holding the surfboards or SUP (stand up paddle boards) The 1up rack shown or similar are a bit wider and and are designed for fat bikes. The Saris MHS is one option.
