Van Camping in Alabama Hills

Van Camping in November

If you saw our previous write up on Alabama Hills, California, like us, you might find this place a magical and amazing place to visit and easily camp right in the van in what can seem truly out of this world.

You might not realize there are little habits that can harm a campsite, if not careful. Here is a simple thing you can do when van camping.

Choose a site that will accommodate your group size. If your group is too large for a site, resource damage will most likely occur.

Below are two different approaches to setting up your camp.

DO NOT DO THIS

The first slide shows two cars parked out of bounds with tents set up on native vegetation. Don’t park like this. This results in unnecessary site expansion and resource damage.

DO THIS

The second slide shows the camping boundary lined with rocks, delineating the camping area. This shows responsible use of the resource.

More helpful tips:

Protect your trash from wind and animals. Secure trash bags inside vehicles whenever possible to keep ravens from scavenging.

Plan your bathroom needs! Please, DO NOT leave toilet paper behind rocks near your campsite. It is disrespectful to the land and other campers who use the site. Bring wag bags, portable toilets, or use the porta-potties on Movie Road.
