Sprinter wheel well blackout

One thing that looks kind of odd on the new VS30 Sprinter Vans is that the rear wheel well isn’t black. Now, this is all about looks. Nothing to do with performance or a technical flaw. But, it’s really obvious on the 4x4 models as the suspension has a lift to it and really shows the wheel well. To compound this esthetic issue is that the front wheel wells have a plastic fender making the side profile not match front to back. That along with the black plastic lower door ding guard belt trim it just feels out of place.

The rear wheel well is painted a light color, almost off-white and feels unfinished. The factory painted this with what looks like a primer or light coat before the final painting. It has a durable undercoating so it’s well protected. But it just doesn’t look right in our opinion. There is a super easy solution. Paint it black.

Mixed up and not matching

Front fender is already black with a plastic liner protecting the components of the steering, suspension and engine bay on the front wheel well. This is why we really wanted to match the front to the rear.

We used the 3M 03584 Professional Grade Rubberized Undercoating in a spray can. There are other products out there equally as good. But we liked the way the 3M product sprayed on. Thick and not runny. But this stuff is messy, so make sure your really protect your paint and other parts of the van.
